Maximum rated brake horsepower and RPM: This information should come from the engine manufacturer's specifications. In a propeller sizing we must use the maximum rating to ensure that the engine will not be in danger of being overloaded by the propeller. A propeller sized to a continuous rating (a lower power rating) may result in engine overloading and eventually engine damage.
If the engine is governed, at what RPM? Diesel engine manufacturers use devices to limit the engine RPM to avoid engine over-speed. An engine is typically governed above the engine maximum rated RPM.

Maximum Propeller Diameter

Lack of adequate clearance between the propeller blade tips and the hull can create excessive noise and vibration, and possible decreased performance. If you know the vertical distance from the propeller shaft to the hull bottom, inthe region where the propeller would be located, we can determine the maximum propeller diameter.
