The Federal CX series are high tolerance NC milled, with the entire
propeller being machine finished. The precision of the NC mills enables
Federal to incorporate advanced design features in its propellers.
Sophisticated application specific blade designs, often incorporating
variable pitch with particular rake and skew distributions, are possible
in the machined CX series. CX
propellers are cast from specific NC machined patterns. The Federal
design team writes the programs to machine finish both the pitch
(pressure) and suction surfaces of that blade, and hub. The resultant
thickness distribution is optimized, eliminating excess material
that can produce drag. Each blade on a CX propeller is virtually
identical. Close repeatability of manufacture is a feature of the
CX propellers.
Full custom
design CX propellers require an accurate vessel data basis. Design,
engineering, set-up and initial manufacture will require lead time
in excess of existing propeller manufacture. CX propellers are possible
in 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7 blade configurations.
